League of Legends’ most popular marksman item, the Infinity Edge, was reworked in Patch 8.11 with a brand new passive ability, more AD, and the removal of flat crit chance.
Well, as of yesterday’s PBE update, the old passive might be coming back, but it won’t be coming back in full.
That’s right, critical strikes dealt after purchasing the Infinity Edge will now boost your crit damage by 50 percent, as long as this change makes it through testing. But this time, it would only be when hitting minions and monsters.
This is good and bad news, depending on what your point of view is. If you were complaining that the new Infinity Edge feels incomplete without the old passive for shredding through enemies, you’re probably not going to be happy about this change because, frankly, it feels like a tease. It won’t help your actual fighting power in this case, only your farming.
If you’re one of the players that either didn’t care about the new passive or even liked it, you should probably be a fan of this, because nothing is being changed or removed from the new item to compensate for this new half-passive. It will retain the true damage conversion and crit chance doubling—this is just being added on top.
It will help your farming and wave clearing, whether you’re a laning marksman or a Kindred in the jungle, and that’s never a bad thing on its own.
This change to the IE should go live with Patch 8.15 next week.
